Rhett Whitley

December 10, 1964 ~ September 16, 2018 (age 53)

Rhett Phillips Whitley, age 53, of Pelham, Georgia passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018. Rhett was born on December 10, 1964. He was a graduate of Ravenwood Academy Class of 1983. He attended both Valdosta State University and Florida State University and graduated with a Business Degree and a Masters Degree in Special Education. Rhett was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and his canine companion, Tater. He was known for his contagious personality and charm. He was loved by all who knew him and was a friend to all.

Rhett is proceeded in death by his son Hunter Whitley, his Mother Gail Phillips Harry of Pelham, Georgia, his grandparents Mr.& Mrs. Willard Rhett Whitley of Pelham, Georgia and his Grandmother Mrs. Louise Phillips of Newton, Georgia.

He is survived by his father and stepmother Mr. and Mrs. Lane Whitley of Moultrie, Georgia, his sister Mrs. Lyndsey Whitley Harrell (Michael) of Chicago, Illinois, his brother Mr. Richie Sloan of Moultrie, Georgia, his sister Shae Sloan Suber (Michael) of Warner Robins, Georgia, nephews Mr. Pate Suber of Warner Robins, Georgia, Mr. Chance Suber (Miriam) of Oceanside, California and nieces Miss Bricelyn Sloan of Moultrie, Georgia and Miss Caelyn Suber of Warner Robins, Georgia and a host of friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held this Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Hidden Pond in Hinsonton, Georgia. The service will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Reverend Wayne Woods and Reverend Julian Griner officiating. A reception will be held following the service. All family and friends are invited to attend.

Hidden Pond is located at 564 Liberty Hill Road Hinsonton, Georgia 31765.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Mexico Beach Artificial Reef Association. This organization creates reefs for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico which was one of Rhett’s passions. You can donate to MBARA in two ways.
