Wallace James (Jim) Peckham, 55, of Tifton died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Moscow, Idaho in 1962 he moved with his family to Indianapolis, Indiana and later to Tifton where he attended school graduating from Tift County High. Jim attended ABAC in the Fine Arts Department and transferred to UGA where he completed His Degree in Fine Arts, Painting, and Ceramics & Crafts. He worked in multiple areas around Athens but focused on his art and love of music. He was usually seen with local bands, including R.E.M.
He was a self-employed ceramist. When Jim was at the wheel, the music was going “loud and proud”. He had a reputation as being one of the best potters in the northern section of the state.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Dr. John C. Peckham of Raleigh, N.C. and his Step-father, Jack Whiddon of Tifton, He is survived by his mother, Judy Whiddon, and brothers, Joseph D. Peckham of Tifton, Marc Peckham of New York, N.Y., Richard Peckham and wife, Alisa, of Moultrie and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering in Jim’s honor will be on Saturday, April 7 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Reflection Cremation & Funeral Service 106 E 12th Street; Tifton, GA 31794. Tel: 1-229-445-3616.
