Richard was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on June 5, 1942 to Eldon and Alice Bechtold.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Sanders Bechtold, sister Linda (Spurling) Bechtold and grandson Justin Adams.  He is survived by sons, Bryan (Heather) Bechtold, Brandon (Cyndi) Bechtold and Bret (Terri) Bechtold, grandchildren Brittany, Brandy, Brooke (Preston Sr), Bryan R. (Jennifer), Jerod (Madison), Brady, Kendall, Taylor and great grandchildren Keira, Preston Jr, Elijah, Emillia, Brytan, Paisley, Mia, Kolumbia, Crue, and future grandson Briggs, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Richard graduated from Cromwell High School in 1960. After graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably as a “Signalman” for four years from 1960–1964 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Richard drove a ready-mix truck for nearly 20 years for Fidler’s Inc. in Goshen, Indiana until retirement.

Richard loved spending time with family, friends and traveling to Montana, Indiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida and back home to his friends in Brookfield, Georgia, taking pictures of everything he did and everywhere he visited.  He loved reading, cross word puzzles, and Solitaire.   He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and camping. He never stopped learning about history and was known for his witty humor and harmless pranks for a good laugh. Richard loved the World of Outlaws, sprint car races at Eldora Speedway, Native American pow wows and memorabilia, and living a simple life. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.

Due to current restrictions on gatherings, a celebration of Richard’s life will be held at a later date in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
