Shirley Rose Stroud Scardino, 93, died Friday, October 13, 2023, at her home in Albany, Georgia.
Shirley was born June 29, 1930, in Galveston, TX, to Mark and Gladys Stroud. At an early age she worked in her grandfather’s, Sam J. Williams, clothing store. She went on to work at the county courthouse and then the ledger department of the bank. At the age of 25 she met Vic Leuci at an Air Force servicemen’s dance, and they were married in 1955. Shortly after transferring to Valdosta, GA, Vic died in an airplane crash. Shirley moved back to Galveston, TX, where she raised her son, Victor. She met and married Al Scardino in 1967 and they had a son, Mark. They remained faithfully married until Al’s death just three months ago.
Shirley was a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. She had a gift for organization and was a valuable ministry partner to her husband, Al. She gave much of her time volunteering at her church, school, the Hosana tape ministry in Littleton, CO, and the counseling center, library, and missions closet at First Baptist, Atlanta.
Shirley was an avid reader, a talented watercolor artist, and a prayer warrior. She liked old movies, parties, classical music, flowers, cats, Mexican food, and fine fashion. She cherished close friendships and loved her family, especially her five grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Victor Leuci (Mary) Columbia, MO, and Mark Scardino (Karma), Albany, GA, grandchildren, Lena Leuci, Sammy Scardino, Marci Scardino, Sophi Scardino, and Maggi Scardino.
The family will be holding a private graveside service in November. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to “Meet the Need” at Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Rd. Albany, GA 31707.
