Victor Jerome “Hossie” Ball, a great personality, always smiling, friendly and quick-witted with a
sense of humor and “one-liners” that made even the longest days feel short, passed away at the
age of 55 on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at Tift Regional Medical Center after a long and
courageous battle with liver and kidney disease.
Hossie was born on December 15, 1964 in Tifton, Georgia to James Wendell & Ernestine Wood
Ball. His birth weight was 12 lbs and he was the largest newborn in the hospital nursery so
immediately the Nurses nicknamed him “Hoss” — after the star character in the popular TV
Western Show “Bonanza.” The nickname outlasted his first hospital visit and it stuck with him
throughout his life.
Hossie was very active in the National FFA Student Organization and graduated from Tift
County High School in 1983. He furthered his education in Agribusiness at Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College. After college, Hossie continued his passion of working alongside his
Father, Grandfather, and Brother in the Family Farming Operation and Cattle Business. Hossie
and Kathy also owned and operated several other businesses including a Heavy Equipment
Forklift Business, Insurance Agency, Pawn Shop, and Commercial and Residential Real Estate.
Hossie reunites with his beloved Mother, Ernestine Wood Ball, and his beloved Grandparents,
Lee & MaeBell Crumley Ball, Sr, and Bennie & Eula Cox Wood who preceded him in death. He
is survived by his Father, James Wendell Ball, who he always referred to as his “Hero” and
“Best Friend;” his wife, Kathryn “Kathy” Elaine Rowe Ball,of 30 years
formerly of Nashville, GA who he calls his own “personal Angel;” His two Sons were the Apple
of his eye and he regarded them as his greatest and proudest accomplishments. Joseph
Chanen Rowe (Lisa Tullo & their children Kaden & Kyndal Rowe); Cody James Ball (Anna Petty
& their newborn son, Colson James Ball);
One brother Vincent R. Joe Ball (wife Helen & daughters - Jordan & Carson Ball);
One sister Vonda M. Missy Copeland (husband Chip & children Jayden & Jack Baldree); many
beloved Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, in-laws, family and friends too numerous to list but
A special note of appreciation to the Doctors, Nurses, Medical Staff and Administration of the
Tift Regional Medical Center. Throughout the many years of Vic’s long-term illness, your
excellent care, premier treatment, personal concern, and dependability in providing superior
care with a consistent spirit of excellence never waivered. Our deepest gratitude and
appreciation for your hard work and dedication.
