Gregory Owen Maynard

Gregory Owen Maynard, age 75, of Worth County, Georgia, passed away on April 25, 2026. He was born on December 12, 1950, in Boone County, West Virginia, and was adopted at a young age and raised in Worth County, Georgia, where he spent most of his life. Gregory was a hardworking and self-sufficient man who built his life through determination, skill, and dedication to his craft. He worked for many years as a private contractor, running his own business and earning a reputation for his exceptional workmanship. Over the years, he completed many projects both large and small, including work at the Worth County Courthouse. He was especially known for his beautiful woodworking, creating handcrafted china cabinets and other custom pieces that will be treasured for years to come. In addition to carpentry, he was skilled in tile work, plumbing, and remodeling, and was known as someone who could fix or build nearly anything. He took great pride in his work and in helping others improve their homes. Outside of his work, Greg found great joy in simple living and time spent with family. Some of his children’s most cherished memories were long summer days spent working together in the vegetable garden. They would harvest peas and shell them by the pool, and gather on the porch around the outdoor kitchen Greg built himself. There, the family spent hours shucking corn, cutting it from the cob, blanching vegetables, and preparing meals together—always ending the day with fresh, home-cooked food. Family traditions also included trips into the woods to hunt for the perfect Christmas tree, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Faith was a central part of Greg’s life. He was a devoted conservative Southern Baptist who read his Bible daily. He began each morning with prayer and devotion and ended each day the same way. His adoptive father, Kenneth Maynard, a preacher, was a strong influence in his life and someone Greg deeply admired. In his younger years, Gregory shared his love of music, performing in bars around town. He was a talented musician who played the guitar, piano, and banjo, and especially enjoyed finger-picking tunes. He had a remarkable ear for music and could often identify the key of a song simply by listening to it. Gregory will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his remarkable craftsmanship, his devotion to his faith, and the many memories he created with his family. Though he was a private man, his life left a lasting impression on those who knew and loved him. Gregory was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Kenneth Maynard and Kaltheen Maynard, both of Worth County, Georgia. He is survived by his children, Wayne Maynard, Richard Maynard, Robert Maynard, Matthew Maynard, and Mary Maynard; and his nine grandchildren, Samantha, Ben, Griffin, Noah, Titus, Tilly, Elle, Shiloh, and Skye. Gregory will be cremated, and no formal services will be held at this time.
