James Roy Bohannon

James Roy Bohannon, age 82, of Tifton, Georgia, passed away on August 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 14, 1943, in Zephyrhills, Florida, James built a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength. He was known for his kindness, perseverance, and the love he showed to everyone who knew him. James was truly a jack of all trades, but a master of none, with a special gift for working with his hands. He spent much of his life in construction, where his dedication and craftsmanship left a lasting mark in the community. He is survived by his children: Alice Bohannon of Nashville, GA; Melinda Bohannon of Quitman, GA; and Michael (Donna) Bohannon of Tifton, GA. He was a proud grandfather to Charley, Jeffery, Rebecca, Ricky, Brittany, Tommy Lee, Christopher, Nicholas, James Jr., Josh, Josephine, and Joseline, each of whom brought him immense joy. He is also survived by one sister, Jeanette Thompson of Boise, ID, and one brother, Reliegh Roy Bohannon Jr. of Zephyrhills, FL. In addition, James leaves behind 18 great-grandchildren, as well as multiple stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and a very large extended family, all of whom loved him dearly. James was preceded in death by three wives — Mary Mills, Josephine Taft, and Emma Ruth Landers; one son, James Roy Bohannon Jr.; and one grandson, Michael Allen Bohannon (son of Melinda). He was also preceded in death by his father, Reliegh Roy Bohannon; his mother, Vessie Mae Lucille Taylor; his grandparents, Jerry Ezekiel Bohannon and Daisy Mae Mosley, who lovingly raised him; and one sister, Pat Bohannon. James’s family and friends will remember him as a man of faith, integrity, and generosity. His legacy lives on in the love he shared, the wisdom he gave, and the family he cherished. A funeral service to honor James’s life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tifton, GA, on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Friends and loved ones are invited to gather in remembrance. James will be deeply missed, but his memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who loved him.
