Mary Nola McCrea

Mary Nola McCrea, age 98, of Tifton, passed away peacefully at her residence of 70 years, in her own bed, as she wanted, on August 23, 2026, surrounded by a lifetime of love. Mary Nola was the mother of five children, and family was always at the heart of her life. She was feisty, strong-willed, and fiercely protective of those she loved. She loved deeply, defended fiercely, and carried remarkable strength throughout her life. She was immensely talented and creative. She was an amazing chef; she could also draw, paint, needlepoint, crochet, and play the piano. In her younger years, she was a soloist dancer and a pageant contestant for Mrs. Georgia. She had so many gifts and interests and brought beauty and passion to all she did. She was extremely generous and humble, always willing to help others and never wanting recognition or praise. When she saw a need, she would respond because that was who she was. She always put others first, especially her children. She was always thinking of them and wanting them to enjoy life and know how loved they were, even in her final moments. Mary Nola also loved flowers and plants and had a special gift for decorating. She appreciated the little details and could turn a house into a home. She kept her yard beautiful and filled her life with things that brought her happiness. Her flowers and plants will bloom and grow, the beauty she created remaining. Ms. McCrea leaves behind her children, Bill Jackson, Ed Jackson, Nola Gentry, and Grace Jackson; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Clothilde Downey; her husband, Willis McCrea; and her oldest son, Charles Jackson. Ninety-eight years is an extraordinary lifetime, but no matter how many years, it will never feel like enough, and words fall short when trying to capture a lady of such personality, character, and love. While our hearts are broken, we will forever be grateful for the 98 years she lived and all the memories and lessons we will carry with us. The family would like to thank all friends for their thoughts, prayers, support, and kindness during this time. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Tifton First Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m.
