Stephen David Scott

Stephen David Scott, 75, passed peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on June 5, 2026. Steve was born to L.A. Scott, Jr. and Emily Sanders Scott on April 26, 1951, in Tifton, Georgia. He grew up with siblings Michael and Patricia, with his feet deeply rooted in South Georgia life. As he grew up, he began working with his father building and manufacturing custom shutters for homes and businesses. He developed quite a talent for beautiful furniture making and home repairs. Steve courageously joined the Georgia Army National Guard fresh out of high school. During his time with the National Guard, he attended Officer’s Candidate School. Over his 32 years of service to our country, he ultimately retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He met people throughout his career that influenced his life in a positive way, and some became lifelong friends and confidantes. Steve met Lynn during their high schools years, and continued dating after he graduated from Tift County High School in 1969. The two married on March 10, 1973, and had an adventurous life together for the next 53 years. The newlyweds moved to Jacksonville, Florida to start their lives together. They ultimately relocated to Tifton, and also resided for a several years in Stone Mountain, Georgia. During their union, the two welcomed daughter, Kathryne and son, David. Steve attended Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in business. He didn’t quite have the stomach for the medical field like his brother, although he tried, but his talents carried him through his career choice well. Steve partnered with his father’s shutter business and they continued their craft. In true Steve fashion, he liked to dabble in new jobs, forever learning and challenging himself. He was largely involved in Cub Scout Pack #295, where he mentored young men and helped them earn their pins. He was also involved in Boy Scouts beginning with Troup #202 in Stone Mountain, GA. He finished his Scouting career as Scout Master with Troup #321 out of Tifton, GA. One of his favorite past-times was relic hunting with his buddies. Steve also enjoyed cowboy action shooting. He was known for grabbing the attention of everyone in the room with his fun and entertaining tales. A man with big a personality, and even bigger stories. He couldn’t get past a meal without a bottle of Ketchup, and there could never be too much hot sauce. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Scott; and brother-in-law, Jim Sanderson. Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Etta Lynn Gray Scott; his children, Kathryne Matos (Alan) and David Scott (Laura); grandson, Jordan Ross; granddaughters, Lavender and Addi Kate Scott; sister, Patricia Sanderson; sister-in-law Debby Scott; nephews: Michael Scott (Katie), Josh Scott (Jenna), and Bobby Sanderson; his faithful pet companions: Arby, Gracie, and Sassy; and many other extended family and friends.
